Course: Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Register online for EMT training classes

Program Information

Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) is the minimum level of training for ambulance personnel in the State of Michigan. The curriculum deals with the assessment and care of the sick or injured patient.

As an EMT-B, you are responsible for a wide range of activities including patient assessment and emergency care. Your responsibilities will also include preparation, safe response to the scene, safe transportation to the hospital, and transferring the patient to hospital personnel for continuity of care.

Participants who successfully complete this course will be eligible to take the National Registry Basic EMT exam and to apply for a State of Michigan Basic EMT license.

Course Content

This class will teach students the following skills:

  • Patient Assessment/Management - Trauma
  • Patient Assessment/Management - Medical
  • Cardiac Arrest Management/AED
  • Spinal Immobilization
  • Long Bone Fracture Immobilization
  • Joint Dislocation Immobilization
  • Traction Splinting
  • Bleeding Control/Shock Management
  • Airway Management and Suctioning
  • Supplemental Oxygen Administration
  • Mouth-to-Mask with Supplemental Oxygen
  • Bag-Valve-Mask

Course Requirements

Students enrolled in course will be required to complete 182 hours of classroom studies and an additional 48 hours of clinical time, 24 hours of which will be riding along with an Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service and 24 hours of which will be observation in a local hospital emergency room.

Students entering this course will be required to possess a current CPR card for Professional Rescuer or arrangements can be made to obtain one through instructors. Prior to starting clinicals, students must provide proof of immunizations including MMR, Hepatitis B and negative TB test valid through the end of the course.

Tuition for this course includes textbook and workbook, all course materials, blood pressure cuff and stethoscope, polo shirt to be worn during clinical rotations, and National Registry Exam fees (for one attempt).

Course Tuition

Cost for the EMT-B course is $1050, which includes all items in description. $100 deposit is due upon registration for each class. Payment arrangements can be made for balance of tution costs.
